Can You Pay Your Lease on a Credit Card?

We all know how frustrating it is to go through rough times. If you’re having a difficult time or find yourself short on cash, you may be trying to prioritize your bills and figure out which ones can be put on your credit card. One big question that some who are financially struggling may ask is whether or not you can pay your rent or lease with plastic.

The short and sweet answer is that, yes, many landlords now accept credit card as a form of payment from their tenants. Since more and more landlords and property owners have begun to start their own websites, they have found that their renters appreciate the convenience of being able to pay their rent with a credit card. Here are some reasons other than being short on cash that you may want to consider paying your lease with a credit card:

  • To help track business expenses. If you operate a home-based business, you may want to consider paying your rent on your business credit card for tax purposes at the end of the year.
  • To build up your credit rating. If you have little to no credit, adding your lease as a significant monthly charge will be a good way to build your credit score. It’s best to pay off that credit card bill in full each month, also, in order to strengthen your credit rating. Keep this in mind if you decide to begin charging your rent each month.
  • To earn miles or points. If your credit card has a great rewards program, you may want to consider paying your monthly rent with your card. This way, you’ll be able to earn even more miles or points with the monthly charge.

Those are just three reasons that a person might consider paying their monthly lease with a credit card. What other reasons can you think of?
