And when it comes to finding office space, just about everyone that runs a business would love to save. Following are three ways that you can find cheap office space—without a huge sacrifice.
1. Don’t be afraid to barter
In a down economy, everyone wants to save money—your potential landlord included. Therefore, don’t be afraid to suggest a barter of some sort. Do you run an IT firm? Offer your services to your potential landlord in exchange for a reduced price on your office’s rent. As the saying goes—time is money, and just be sure that you get a good trade for the amount of time that you plan on assisting your landlord in exchange for that free or reduced-rate rent.
2. Keep your network of colleagues and friends active
Social media websites are there for a reason—to stay in touch. Use the opportunity to ask those in your social media networks if they know of any great deals on office space. It may seem like a shot in the dark, but contacting people that you once worked with or knew “back in the day” can lead to a great deal on office space—or other great business-related deals that you might be looking for in the future.
3. Use someone’s home
Think about all those friends and people you know that leave behind an empty home each day for eight hours while they go off to work. One of them might be willing to open up a room for you to use as an office—for a price. Chances are, whatever you pay to your friend or acquaintance to rent one room from them will be a whole lot cheaper than what you would pay to rent conventional commercial space.
